(Poem) Glutton

Hey, guys! I’ve never shared poetry on my blog before but I’ve been feeling incredibly inspired lately.  Blogging has reignited my passion for poetry and stories by allowing me to read some amazing fiction from some of the poet/author bloggers that I follow. Reading your fantastic work has made me fall in love with words and their magnificent power and beauty again. Thank you to Diana, Terveen Gill, Ace, Vaniheart, Shweta Suresh, Deepthy, Cheryl Gulf Coast Poet, Michele Lee, Chris Hall, Cindy Georgakas, Offshorewriter, André, and many, many others that would be too many to name here. This poem is for you ❤

.

(By the way, happy Disability Pride Month! It’s time to be loud and proud about all of the ways that our disabilities make us different! I started the celebration off last week with a post about Wheelchair Dancing which you can read here. I’ll be sharing another one about music soon)

  1. What a delightful poem! Your words spring from the page and land before me in an explosion of colours and flavours. I love the structure, I love the language, and that last line is very special. I’m honoured by the dedication, Simone and I agree with others, you should definitely write and share more.

    1. Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry that I spelled your name incorrectly in the post! I’ve gone back and corrected it so that it now only has one L. I knew it was Michele with one L so I’m not quite sure why I did that, sorry 😊 I have thoroughly enjoyed speaking with you this week too! You were my latest discovery that I included in the shout-out but I felt like I just had to squeeze you in because your writing absolutely blew me away. I’m so excited to be reading more, just like I said in the poem. You’re welcome, happy disability pride month! I hope this will be a great month for everyone! ❤😊❤

    1. Aw, thank you so much, Roberta! ❤ Since I know you’re such an avid reader, your feedback really means a lot. Now I feel much braver about sharing my poetry after people seemed to enjoy this one. I think it’s really cool that you read poetry in Italian. Is Italian your first language? I haven’t read that much poetry in Dutch apart from what we had to read for school.

  5. Simone, you are immensely gifted. Your words held me till the end. The way you have spun them into addictive and delicious treats is exquisite. Not a word or line wasted. It reads like an enchanting dream. And the title is the cherry at the top of this splendid dessert of words. Write more and more. This poem has made us all gluttonous. And thank you so much for the mention. It touches my heart. 🙂

To hear such an incredible response from such a talented writer… it truly makes me want to pick up the pen and write even more! 😊 Even the words in your comment sound poetic and beautiful. I’m so happy that my words held you until the end and that you felt like not a word was wasted! I don’t know much about poetry structure so I just wrote in a way that felt right. Reading your work has been an amazing experience for me and a major turning point when it came to my appreciation for writing. 12. A glutton… for words, without the need to count the calories… for to increase the size of the mind is advantages… to fit all those words… and when the dictionaries are done, and the pangs of hunger still bite… join me I pray, as a fellow wordologist… and let us eat some more…

  14. Thank you so very much for sharing this poem! 😊 I have been trying to think of “the right way” to share some of my poetry on my blog, or waiting until it’s “the right time,” especially as some of it is very personal and deals with some very deep darkness I have been through. But as I read your poem, and the wonderful way you’ve oriented the words, I think it’s not about the right time it’s about being courageous in sharing. And that is something you very much always are.

Peace with you and your family as you wend your way through this coming weekend.

    1. I held back on sharing poetry on my blog for a long while too. It was a part of me that I wasn’t sure I was ready to share on WordPress but reading all of the incredible poetry and stories shared by my favourite bloggers inspired me to get my writing out there too. If your poems are very personal then it’s up to you to decide when you’re brave enough to share it – or even if you want to share it all. I find that sharing my stories on The Wheelchair Teen helps me to accept and deal with everything in my life – but it’s different for everyone. You have to know what makes you feel most comfortable regarding your writing. Peace with you and your family too ❤❤❤
